Bernie Sanders, known liar, has lied to “the People” again, and is now refusing to disclose his medical records. Think about this for a minute; a nearly 80 year old heart attack patient wants to be leader of the Free World, yet also wants us to keep us in the dark about his health concerns. Presidents have released varying amounts of health records, some have hidden serious health problems from the public, and some have even died while in office. Humans have a limited life span, and America can survive a Dead President, we have before. The problem is? He lies.
Oh, the lies do not bother the people who “matter.” They don’t affect his hired people, or even his base; they are mostly in on his lies and don’t give a shit anyway. Democrats are the ones who have really been lied to, and in the age of the 24 hour news cycle with an inveterate liar in the White House, “We the People” have grown numb from trying to keep up with fiction and fables from white male politicians.
With Bernie these “little fictions” amount to far more than white lies or mischief from Elder Statesmen who ought to know better. He lies to the Democratic voter by promising us information we need to determine whether he is an honest and viable candidate. While we wait for data that is not forthcoming, he smears his competition by making insinuations that he would not make were his own information disclosed.
Imagine if a headline like this had come out during this time in January of 2016:
Would he have been able to continue his rants against Millionaires and Billionaires without being called out? Would some of the more fervent believers in the evil of Hillary Clinton have been just a little less angry, hateful, and maybe have allowed her the chance to earn their votes? Lies of omissions are just as much of a deception as lies one yells at the top of their lungs.
These lies are about integral issues too; we needed his final FEC Filings from 2016 to determine if he is as honest as he says he is, we needed his Full Tax Returns to decide whether he trusts us enough for us to be able to trust him, but the latest lie– about handing over his health records– they are a part of a pattern of deceit.
On June 30, Sanders’ campaign requested a second 45-day extension, saying the senator had “good cause” to delay because of his “current campaign schedule and officeholder duties.”
Again, regulators approved Sanders’ punt.
Now that Sanders’ second extension has expired, spokesman Michael Briggs confirmed to the Center for Public Integrity that the senator won’t file a presidential campaign personal financial disclosure after all.
“We were told that since the senator no longer is a candidate there was no requirement to file,” Briggs said.
Each time Bernie lies he plays the well known “oldest trick in the book” game where he promises us the information we need will given by a date sometime in the future. When that day arrives, the information does not.
From Washington Post:
“Of course, we’re — of course, people do have a right to know about the health of a senator and someone running for president of the United States, full disclosure,” Mr. Sanders told CNN’s Sanjay Gupta. “And, we will make at the appropriate time, all of our medical records public for you or anybody else who wants to see them.” Mr. Sanders this week released some information — letters from three doctors attesting to his fitness for office — but it fell far short of his promise of full disclosure. When pressed by reporters if more information would be released, he said, “Probably not.”
Bernie, for his part, made a promise of something specific: his medical RECORDS were offered, not simply a few doctor’s notes. That would have been fine, if that was what we were promised. Yet had he stated at the time following his heart attack that he would get us notes from his doctor, the story would have shifted, leaving many concerned about what he was trying to hide. So, he chose to delay. This is how he plays the media.
And it is working. For now.
Yet not all media coverage is equal, is it? The General Election coverage dwarfs the primary coverage, and every little thing; from emails to Comey letters are made to seem so significant by media outlets that voters are swayed. People will tell you that these lies pale in comparison to Trump’s and as such, do not matter. They say nobody will care what our side does because their side is worse. But they are wrong.
Bernie’s lies DO matter.
We are the DEMOCRATIC Party, and in this day and age we have expectations and DEMANDS of our leadership that the GOP does not. We expect honesty, integrity, personal responsibility, dedication, hard work, and sound leadership. We will not settle for less, and if offered less we will not show up in droves to accept it. We will not vote en masse for an unapologetic liar.
Even Bill Clinton had to atone. For lying about consensual sex.
We forgave him that part.
This does not make us weak, nor does this mean we prefer to lose; this does not mean we are a lost cause. What is does mean is that we are unwilling to sell our souls for power, and we find that the bitter taste of deception is not easier to swallow with a spoonful of honeyed lies. We want the truth.
I know I mostly speak for myself and my personal view of how we operate as a coalition, and I know there are some factions who will vote for anything in a blue suit as long as it ends this Trumpian nightmare. Yet, there will always be people like me; people who cannot distinguish between 2 deliberate and inveterate liars, people who become frozen and unable to decide between the known liar in power and the known liar seeking power.
If Bernie Sanders wants to be a Leader he needs to prove himself. It’s not all about how much money you raise from however many individual donors, or what the polls say in Iowa and New Hampshire. We the People decide who wins elections, and as you can see from the opposition to Trump, we are sick of lies and liars, big ones and small ones. This latest attempt to weasel out of disclosure may fly under the radar for the rest of the primary. But believe you me, if Bernie makes it to the General Election, it will pop back up when WE can least afford it.
And I, for one, do not defend liars.
Miss me with that shit.
